AI Adoption: how to introduce AI into your organization by focusing on value

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of how organizations build products, manage processes, and make decisions. Yet adopting AI is not simply about introducing new tools or automating existing tasks.

The real challenge is understanding where AI can create meaningful value, whether the organization is ready to support it, and how to integrate it without losing sight of people, business goals, and long-term impact.

So, what does effective AI adoption actually look like?

AI Adoption starts with outcomes

One of the most common mistakes in AI adoption is starting with the solution: choosing a model, introducing a chatbot, automating a task, or experimenting with the latest tool.

In our experience, requests to introduce AI are usually driven by much more concrete needs: making a process more efficient, accessing information faster, supporting better decisions, automating repetitive tasks, or creating new services.

That is why the first question should not be “Which technology should we use?” but “What outcome do we want to achieve?”

Defining a clear, measurable outcome makes it possible to understand whether AI is actually the right solution and, most importantly, how its impact can be measured.

How AI-ready is your organization?

Identifying a promising AI use case does not necessarily mean an organization is ready to implement it. AI readiness depends on what comes before AI: objectives, data, and processes.

At 20tab, we consider three dimensions particularly important:

  • clarity of objectives: knowing exactly which outcome the organization wants to achieve;
  • data quality and governance: ensuring that information is accessible, up to date, and reliable;
  • process maturity: because automating an inefficient process does not necessarily make it better.

AI can make an organization faster, but speed alone is not enough: you need to know which direction you are moving in.

From AI Adoption to AI-native organizations

The shift we are seeing goes beyond introducing individual AI tools.

We are moving towards organizations where artificial intelligence becomes a structural component of products, services, and processes: AI-native organizations.

In this scenario, data quality, governance, critical thinking, and people's ability to make informed decisions will become increasingly important.

AI does not make the human component less relevant: it increases the value of skills such as interpretation, experience, creativity, and decision-making responsibility. This is also reflected in the five trends towards 2027 explored in our white paper.

AI Adoption: from potential to impact

These questions are at the heart of “AI Adoption: people, products and organizations in the age of AI,” the new white paper by 20tab.

We brought together perspectives from across our team - spanning strategy, product, design, innovation, and software development - to explore what it really means to introduce artificial intelligence into an organization.

The white paper explores AI readiness, outcomes, people, design, data, governance, cybersecurity, and new ways of working, moving from the questions organizations should ask before adopting AI to a concrete path for turning its potential into value.
